IAS officers’ family increasing in Uttar Pradesh’s bureaucracy

Lucknow: The number of IAS officers in Uttar Pradesh’s bureaucracy is on the rise. The Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) has transferred IAS Devyani, a Maharashtra cadre officer, to Uttar Pradesh on marriage grounds. Devyani’s husband, IPS Shivam Ashutosh, is a 2023 batch officer in the Uttar Pradesh Police. She had requested DOPT to change her cadre status from Maharashtra to Uttar Pradesh and following NOCs from both states, DOPT issued a notification, and Devyani has joined the UP appointment department, with her posting order pending.

This trend is not new, in fact IAS officers selected from UPSC often favour Uttar Pradesh. Recently, IAS Dr. Aparajita Singh Sinsinwar (2019 batch - CDO Shahjahanpur) moved to UP after marrying IPS Devendra Kumar (2021). Similarly, husband of IAS Nidhi Bansal (2020 batch - CDO Sitapur), IAS Abhishek Anand (2020 batch - CDO Lakhimpur Kheri) has also relocated to UP on marriage grounds. In another case, IAS Pratibha Singh (2020 batch - CDO Agra) joined UP after marrying IPS Aditya Langhe, SP Chandauli. With this influx of IAS officers from other states, it may become challenging for the government to accommodate all as collectors, especially with the high number of PCS officers in the state.
