Has Mamata got entangled in her own politics?

New Delhi: Mamta Banerjee is perplexed and clueless about her next step as word is that she has become ‘entangled’ in her own politics. She went ahead and took the responsibility of deciding the presidential candidate on behalf of the opposition and suggested names from Sharad Pawar to Farooq Abdullah and Gopal Krishna Gandhi, but no one was ready. Her fourth choice was Yashwant Sinha, who was also prepared and contested the elections. When Mamata forwarded his name, she had no idea what the BJP was going to do. So, when BJP declared the name of tribal woman Draupadi Murmu, Mamata was stunned and became quite, in absence of a proper ‘reply’. Think, Yashwant Sinha was her suggested candidate, even though he was the fourth choice, but Mamata did not meet him during the campaign. She stopped him from coming to Kolkata and asked his party MPs, MLAs to stay away from him. Even Telangana CM Chandrashekhar Rao was helping Sinha in contesting the elections but Mamata was missing there too. She gave this message that TMC will support Sinha but won’t be seen with him so that wrong message is not sent to tribals of the state.

However, Mamata suggested four names one after the other for the post of President, but when it came to deciding the candidate for Vice President, she disappeared. When a meeting was held at Sharad Pawar’s house to decide the candidate, Mamata did not send any leader of her party in it and remained silent even after the opposition decided the name of Congress leader Margaret Alva. Mamata kept her silence even when BJP nominated Jagdeep Dhankhar, governor of her state, as NDA’s VicePresidential candidate. The question is when there was so much need to create opposition unity in the presidential election that Mamta took the initiative by going ahead, then why is she not understanding such need in the Vice Presidential election?
