Guwahati: Pandu Port work in full swing

Guwahati: The Brahmaputra River is one of the largest rivers in the country and is called the lifeline of the North East. Among many projects by the Inland Waterways Authority, Pandu Port is being developed to provide road, train and water facilities at this multi-modal facility port in Guwahati.

The construction work at present is in full swing. The road developed from Pandu Port will be directly connected to the National Highway outside the city so that the traffic of Guwahati city is not affected by heavy vehicles carrying goods unloading from the port. As per A. Selva Kumar, Director of Inland Waterways Authority, the project construction cost is Rs 150 crore and will be done in 2 phases. At present, about 30% of the work has been completed, while the remaining will be completed by the end of this year.

Besides this, a ship repairing centre is also being developed in Guwahati by the Inland Waterways Authority. The repair facility for small and big ships coming to the Brahmaputra will be made available here.

With this facility, the inconvenience and expense of taking NorthEastern ships to Kolkata Port for repairs can be avoided.
