GOLDEN TRIBUTE TO INDIA’S HEROES!

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday named 21 Islands in Andaman and Nicobar after recipients of India’s highest military decoration, the Param Vir Chakra. The naming was done on occasion of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s 126th birth anniv also known as Parakram Diwas.

“When history is being made, the future generations not just remember, assess and evaluate it, but also find constant inspiration from it,” Modi said. The first recipient of the award was Major Somnath Sharma, who lost his life while fighting against Pak in 1947.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, present on the occasion on Monday, said that India is the fi rst country to have done this, as no other country in the world had named an island after the brave soldiers who fought for the nation.
