Filmmaker Om Raut reacts to the backlash received by the teaser of Adipurush

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Netizens were eagerly waiting for the first glimpse of the mega-budgeted film, Adipurush which has the ensemble star cast of Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Devdutta Nage, Sunny Singh and more. But ever since the first teaser of the Om Raut directorial was released on the internet, negative light has been shed upon it regarding CGI and VFX. Several call the VFX of the film outdated and even made fun of the animation while stating that it looks straight out of an early 2000s film. Many others even pointed out the difference in Saif Ali Khan’s look and revealed that he looks more like a Mughal King than a Sri Lankan one.

Speaking about the backlash, Adipurush’s director, Om Raut stated his reaction and revealed that although he is heartbroken, he expected that much. He said, “I was definitely disappointed, but not surprised because this film has been made for a big medium i.e. big screen. You can reduce it to some extent but you cannot bring it to the mobile phone. This is an environment that I cannot control. I never put it on YouTube but it was the need of the hour or the demand that we had to do so. We had to put the teaser of Adipurush on YouTube so that more and more people could see it.”

“My Partner and Studio (T-Series) is the biggest YouTube channel in the world. The movie needs an audience that is less frequented in theatres - especially senior citizens, who tend to shun theatres, people who live in remote locations that don't have access to theatres. We need those people. We want them to come to the theatres and watch our film. Because this is Ramayana. We have to reach this to as many people as possible. They have to get excited. So as I said I was not surprised to see people's reactions to the teaser because this movie is not made for the smaller screen. It is made for the big screen and I can't bring it to the small screen,” he added.

The film is slated to release on the big screens on January 12, 2023. Adipurush is a mythological drama that retells the classic tale of the Ramayana. Prabhas essays the role of Ram, Kriti Sanon as Sita and Saif Ali Khan dons the role of Ravana. The pan-India film will be released in 2D, IMAX 3D and 3D.
