EXCLUSIVE! Dulquer: Working with Sunny Paji was surreal

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Sunny Deol is one of the finest actors in Bollywood and he has given the audience many good films that are still cherished today. After staying away from the limelight for a long time, he is coming back with yet another banging film, ‘Chup’ alongside Dulquer Salmaan, Pooja Bhatt and Shreya Dhanwanthary. Directed by R Balki, the film promises to bring forward a unique romantic psychological thriller story that would bring everyone on the edge of their seat. Talking about their upcoming film and much more, Sunny Deol and Dulquer Salmaan sat down with First India for an exclusive chat.

Talking about the film, Sunny Deol said, “When R Balki told me the story, I was immediately on board with it. It basically is a character-rooted film which tells the deep story of a person. It also has a slight glimpse of Guru Dutt Ji. I hope the film is received well.” Adding to that, Dulquer revealed, “The reaction people had after watching the trailer, was similar to my reaction after the narration. I found the idea very original and authentic. It is also different from all the work Balki sir has made, so I was intrigued to see it. It felt challenging so I instantly felt, I needed to do this.”

Talking about his experience of working with Sunny Deol, Dulquer said, “I will never forget the moment when I arrived on the set, in full costume and he was there too. It was surreal. After watching him on screen for years, I was finally going to work with him. He has a wonderful aura and energy.”

After working in the film industry for several decades, Sunny still feels that nothing else, not even OTT can top a theatre experience. He revealed, “So many things have come before such as pirated videos, CDs and satellites. But the fun in watching a movie on a silver screen is unmatched. This is why theatres still work and people still go there. I feel it will always be there because you cannot enjoy a film on a small screen.”

Dulquer contrasted, “This argument works both ways. Some films are better in theatre while some are better on the OTT. But one good thing that came out of the pandemic regardless of OTT or theatre, is audiences want quality content. They have been watching international and national content so now to bring them into theatres, we need to bring that quality.”

Sunny further revealed that although he is making a comeback after years, he feels that he will do more movies in the future if filmmakers give him the opportunity. “I want to do more films; I just hope producers listen to this and sign me. I hope directors come with a good subject. I want to do more work and I am experimenting. I produced a few films and even went into direction a few years back. Now I solely want to focus on acting. So definitely I’ll try to do more.”
