EXCLUSIVE! Anil Kapoor says he loves to smoke and drink but chooses not to!

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Anil Kapoor is a charismatic actor who has not aged even a bit. He looks as fresh as ever and has an energy that may tire the youngest ones. Ever since he debuted in 1977, the actor has given several amazing hits and he still continues to do so. Anil Kapoor is now coming up with the family entertainer ‘Jugjugg Jeeyo’ alongside Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani. The superstar spoke about his upcoming movie, the stigma of divorce and more with First India Filmy.

While talking about why he chose Jugjugg Jeeyo, Anil Kapoor said, “It is not only about the role. I don’t do films for the sake of doing something different. There are so many things that I take into consideration like who the producer is, what the story is, do I suit the role, will I be able to do justice to the role. All these things matter. Also, when do they want to make the film, does it fit into the scheme of things, will I be able to do my best, am I compromising. There are so many other things which make me say yes to the film.”

He further revealed that one of the biggest reasons he said yes to Jugjugg Jeeyo was Yash Johar, the founder of Dharma Productions, with whom he was planning to work for a long time but unfortunately couldn’t.

Anil elaborated that films are always a reflection of society. “What is happening today in the contemporary world, the director and writer try to reflect that. Otherwise, they try to portray something slightly similar to what used to happen during their parents’ or grandparents’ time. The youngster will not be able to relate to that. Jugjugg Jeeyo is very contemporary. So, the young generation will be able to connect to this.”

Sharing insight on the concept of divorce, Anil said, “Marriage is the oldest institution. Obviously, hundreds of years back, there was nothing such as divorce. Nobody would even know that a couple has internal issues. But things keep on changing with time and you have to accept that change. Today, if two people are not getting along, they do amicably decide to part ways and live their lives happily.”

On how he has managed to stay relevant in the dynamic industry, he said “I am not bought. I enjoy what I do. I also have been lucky. The right films and the right directors came to me at the right time. I am also lucky to be surrounded by the right people. My family and my wife who has always been supportive. I also have taken care of myself. Even I want to enjoy a round of drinks and smoke. I love it. But I don’t do it. Even I wanted my love scandals to be on the first page or get quick sensationalism by saying something controversial. But I restricted and disciplined myself. I was very careful. I do not do things because they seem fun.”
