"Doesn't seem to be attack out of political reason": NCP-SCP leader Majeed Memon on killing of Baba Siddique
Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party-SCP faction leader Majeed Memon said on Sunday that the attack on NCP leader Baba Siddique does not seem to be a political attack and there can be business related enmity that got him killed as he was a successful businessman.
Memon told ANI, "This attack on Baba Siddique doesn't seem to be an attack out of political reason. He was a successful businessman - there may be some enmity related to that. He had earlier received the threats and Y-category security was provided to him and still he was attacked in the public. Police should take these things seriously and shouldn't advertise such things."
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Minister and NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal said that the duty of the police is not limited to merely giving security but to investigating from where the threats are coming.
"It is saddening. In the last 10 days, one Talluka Pramukh and one leader of NCP have been murdered. Police were aware of the threats and Y security was provided to him. The duty of the police is not limited to merely giving security but to investigating from where the threats are coming, and who are those giving these threats... Police should take strict action as soon as possible... There is no political angle to it, I have zero doubts regarding that. I don't know if there is any personal reason, the police are to investigate that," Bhujbal said.
Siddique, a leader in Ajit Pawar's faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was shot at near Nirmal Nagar in Bandra. He later succumbed to his bullet injuries at Lilavati Hospital late Saturday night.
Earlier today, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that five teams have been formed and sent to different states to probe the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui and it will be known in 2-3 days that who was behind the incident.
Ajit Pawar went to Cooper Hospital where the body of Baba Siddique was shifted for post-mortem and met the NCP leader's son Zeeshan Siddique.
Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde on Sunday announced that NCP leader Baba Siddique would be cremated with full state honours, who was shot dead in Mumbai.
According to the Chief Minister Office (CMO), Siddique will be given full state honours as he served as minister in the Maharashtra government during 2004-2008 and also as chairman of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).
