Dhanush: Five Most Memorable Films of the Iconic Actor

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Dhanush is creating quite a storm in the industry with his Hollywood stint in the Russo Brother’s The Gray Man. The actor has already made a name for himself in the Indian film industry with some of the most famous and critically acclaimed projects in his kitty. Dhanush currently has several projects geared up with some promising teasers and posters already released. The actor celebrates his 39th birthday on July 28. On this special Dhanush day, here are five of the most memorable performances in his film career:

Kaadhal Kondein (2003)

Dhanush took on the gutsy role of a mentally-disturbed youth at the very beginning of his career. Kaadhal Kondein marked the second film in his career and went on to become his first critically and commercially acclaimed movie. It also won him the first nomination for the Filmfare Best Actor award. Dhanush plays a grey character, Vinodh, a mentally and physically tortured child who grows up to become a psychopath as he falls in love with a girl.

 

Aadukalam (2011)

Aadukalam is one of the milestone films for Dhanush who won him the first Filmfare Best Actor award and his first National Film Award for it. The actor then went on to win several accolades. Aadukalam saw him play Karuppu, an amateur rooster fighter who goes on to become a well-known prodigy of the game, surpassing his mentor. What ensues then is a game of jealousy and betrayal.

 

Raanjhanaa (2013)

Raanjhanaa was Dhanush’s debut in Hindi cinema after a successful career in the South. It gained him critical praise and also went on to become a hit. Raanjhanaa paired him opposite Sonam Kapoor and saw him turn into Kundan, a boy from the streets of Varanasi, who falls in love with a Muslim girl, Zoya and goes on to pursue her despite her being in love with Akram, a city boy. Though not a conventional love story, the film gave Dhanush a chance to portray his classic lover boy role and also offer more to the audience. It garnered him the Hindi Filmfare Best Debut Male award.

 

Vada Chennai (2018)

Vada Chennai is Dhanush’s one of the most highly acclaimed films which also gave him another Filmfare Best Actor award. The actor played a genius carrom player who unwillingly gets engulfed in a gang rivalry. It was applauded as the best gangster thriller that one can be looking for and also marked his last Filmfare till the next one comes in the coming years.

 

Asuran (2019)

Asuran, another highly acclaimed film of Dhanush, showed him portray a Dalit man and his fight against the injustice caused by the upper castes. The film won Dhanush high praises from everyone as he delivered one of the most jarring performances of his career. Asuran went on to become Dhanush’s second film which gave him the National Film Award for Best Actor.
