"Deeply distressing": Maharashtra CM condoles loss of lives in Pushpak Express accident at Jalgaon

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his condolences to the families of those who died in the rail accident in Jalgaon district on Wednesday.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Fadnavis asserted that the entire administration is working in coordination with the railway authorities.

"The tragic incident of the loss of lives in a very unfortunate incident near Pachora in Jalgaon district is deeply distressing. I pay my heartfelt tributes to them. My colleague Minister Girish Mahajan and the Superintendent of Police have reached the spot, and the District Collector will reach there shortly. The entire district administration is working in coordination with the railway administration, and immediate arrangements are being made for the treatment of the injured," he said.

The Maharashtra CM also mentioned that the situation is being closely monitored and that they are in constant touch with the district administration.

"Eight ambulances have been dispatched. The general hospital as well as other nearby private hospitals have been kept ready for the treatment of the injured. Emergency equipment like glass cutters, floodlights etc. have also been kept ready. We are monitoring the entire situation and all necessary assistance is being provided immediately. I am in touch with the district administration," Fadnavis said.

The Divisional Commissioner of Nashik, Praveen Gedam, confirmed the death of eight people in the accident.

"Passengers of Pushpak Express were on the track when they met with an accident as Karnataka Express was passing through an adjacent track.

We are on the spot. Additional SP, SP, Collector and everybody is on their way. We are coordinating with DRM and Railway officials. Eight ambulances reached the spot as per the last available information, and additional rescue vans of Railway and Railway ambulances are being rushed to the spot. Further details are awaited. As per the last report, 8 people have died. The numbers can rise...The administration is providing all possible help," Gedam told ANI.

According to initial reports, the passengers had stepped outside their coaches due to a suspected fire on the train. While they were outside, the Karnataka Express passed through the same spot, and several passengers were struck by the moving train.
