Cool Grandmother Jaya Bachchan doesn't have a problem if Navya has a “child before marriage”

Mumbai (Maharashtra): What The Hell Navya, the podcast hosted by Amitabh Bachchan's granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda, is extremely popular among listeners. Every Saturday, a new edition of the podcast is released online. It has commentary from Navya, Shweta, and Jaya Bachchan on a range of subjects, including parenthood, work, love, and more. The What The Hell Navya episodes have been a lot of fun so far, and the most recent one has Jaya Bachchan giving her view on relationships and marriage and how things have changed since Jaya Bachchan's era.

Jaya Bachchan shared her advice for the younger generation, stating that she believes that people should marry their best friends. She said that she has no issues whatsoever if Navya Nanda decides to have a kid without first being married. “I'm looking at it very clinically. Since there's a lack of that emotion, the romance today, I think you should marry your best friend. You should have a good friend, you should discuss and say, ‘Maybe I'd like to have a child with you because I like you, I think you're nice, so let's get married because that's what society's saying'. I have no problem if you have a child without a marriage also, I really don't have a problem,” said Jaya. Navya replied that she knows Jaya Bachchan wouldn’t have a problem with it.

Jaya Bachchan also underlined the value of physical attraction in a relationship on the show. She asserted that the younger generation 'cannot experiment', but her generation 'couldn't', and that there is nothing wrong with that because a long-lasting relationship is also a result of physical attraction and compatibility. “If there isn't a physical relationship it's not going to last very long. You can't be last on love and fresh air and adjustment, I feel. It's very very important,” she said.

As Jaya related her story of how she wed Amitabh Bachchan, Navya, Shweta, and Jaya also talked about how private marriages are preferable to extravagant weddings. Jaya claimed that despite having planned to get married in October, their parents had advised them to wait since they wanted to travel after Zanjeer's success. Consequently, the wedding took place in June. She remembered how private their wedding had been. “We had decided we will marry in October because by then my work would have reduced. But he had told me, ‘I definitely don’t want a wife who will be 9 to 5. Please work, but not every day. You choose your projects and work with the right people,” she shared.
