Congress shines through OBC politics in Maharashtra
New Delhi: In Maharashtra, Congress was doing Maratha or Dalit politics for a long time. In the recent history, Congress ruled for 15 consecutive years, and its politics revolved around the Maratha or Dalit leadership.
Even after becoming the opposition, the Congress did politics on almost these points. But now it has focused itself on OBC politics. Congress has put forward OBC leaders in the politics of the state.
Congress’s OBC leaders are also tenacious who, in the recently held local body elections, performed well in entire Vidarbha including Nagpur and Congress topped in the local body elections. It even defeated BJP in Nagpur also.
Think, two ‘heavyweights’ of BJP, Nitin Gadkari and Devendra Fadnavis who hail from Vidharbha. But despite the presence of both the veteran leaders, the Cong has won.
The reason for this is that the Cong has put forward the OBC leaders coming from Vidarbha in the Maha politics. Cong has made OBC leader Nana Patole as the state prez. Along with him, Sunil Kedar, Nitin Raut and Vijay Vedettiwar have been made ministers in the Uddhav Thackeray govt. All three also hail from the Vidarbha region and represent other backward castes.
