#BoycottVikramVedha: Will the dearth of originality cause the downfall of Bollywood?

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Films play a pivotal role in society as they not only portray society through the lens of viewers while highlighting the wrongs and rights, but they are also one of the major mediums of entertainment. As a result, filmmakers and actors have always been hailed for doing a commendable job of making thoughtful movies throughout every genre. But nowadays, filmmakers have taken this appreciation for granted as films now severely lack sense, creativity, story and originality. Right from absurd movies to the heaps of remakes, the Hindi film industry is filled with this phenomenon that is taking over its creative space.

After taking on this nonsense for years, the audience is finally retorting by speaking up against the same. With the boycott trend going on, netizens are not only holding celebrities accountable for their ignorant comments but are also calling out the lack of good and original content in Bollywood. After Laal Singh Chaddha, Rakshabandhan and Brahmastra, Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan’s upcoming film, Vikram Vedha has come under fire. The movie is the remake of the hit 2017 Telugu film of the same name which starred R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi. A diaspora of trolls on social media is targeting the film for being a cheap copy even before its trailer is released.

Taking to Twitter, social media users are requesting everyone to not spend money on a cheap copy when the original film is available on YouTube for free. One netizen wrote, “Why waste money to watch the copy, when you can watch the original for free”. Another tweeted, “the original Vikram vedha is available on YouTube watch it here.. Don't support remake! #BoycottVikramVedha #VikramVedhateaser.”

This raises the question of why is there a dearth of original ideas in the Hindi film industry when on the other hand, the South industry is overflowing with good and creative content.
