Boycott Raksha Bandhan hashtag trends on Twitter after writer receives flak for anti-Hindu sentiments

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Akshay Kumar is an unstoppable actor who is shooting movies like he is jumping down floors! After Bachchan Pandey and Samrat Prithviraj, the actor is gearing up for the release of his next film, Raksha Bandhan which is based on the bond between siblings. One may wonder why such a sweet movie would enrage people, right? But it seems that somehow that has also been managed as Twitter is trending with the hashtag #boycottrakshabandhan.

It is not the content this time that has ‘offended’ people. Rather, it is the crew of the film that does not sit well with the audience. The co-writer of Raksha Bandhan, Kanika Dhillon has come under the flak of netizens who are criticizing her for her past tweets. In one such tweet made in 2021, Kanika retweeted an article from ‘The Wire’ which talked about the death of Ashok Amrohi while waiting for a bed in Gurgaon hospital. She wrote, “Dying in the parking lot after waiting for a hospital bed..... Yeh ache din hai ! India super power hai! Aur gau mata ka mutra peene se Covid chala jayega! #NewIndia #COVID19India #OxygenCrisis #IndiaNeedsOxygen #helpindia”.

After that, several of her tweets started doing the rounds on the internet where she mocked the government for its mishandling of the communal harmony in the country. One hater wrote, “I am boycotting this movie called ‘rakshabandhan’ because of anti-Hindu @KanikaDhillon #boycottrakshabandhan”. Another user tweeted, “The writer of #Rakshabandhan mocking Hindus with gau mutra jibes during COVID. She also feels Rhea Chakraborty was victimized by SSR fans. #BoycottRakshabandhan #SushantSinghRajput”.
