Andhra: YSRCP, TDP workers clash in Nellore, seven injured
Nellore: At least seven people were injured after a clash broke out between workers of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday night.
The clash broke out in the Shankaranagaram village of Ananta Sagaram block in Nellore, days after TDP stormed into power in the state uprooting YSRCP.
Upon receiving the information, the team of police officials reached the spot.
The injured have been admitted to Atmakuru government hospital in Nellore where their treatment is underway.
Out of the seven injured, four were identified as TDP workers, while other three belonged to YSRCP.
Inspector Surya Prakash Reddy said that around seven people were injured in the clash, and are undergoing treatment.
"A clash broke out between YSRCP and TDP cadres and around seven people are injured. Their treatment is undergoing in Atmakuru government hospital," Inspector Reddy told ANI.
Meanwhile, Police have registered a case, and launched a probe to ascertain the exact reason behind the violence.
The state of Andhra Pradesh went to polls recently. Both assembly elections and the Lok Sabha elections were held simultaneously.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contested the Andhra Pradesh elections in alliance with Chandrababu Naidu's TDP and actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan's JanaSena Party.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) registered a massive victory winning 164 out of the 175 seats in the Andhra Pradesh assembly. TDP won the lion's share of 135 seats while its allies JSP and BJP won 21 and 8 seats respectively.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was sworn-in as the CM on Wednesday and is set to assume office today.
