"Already got responsibility...Congress never thought of Punjab": BJP leader Ravneet Bittu

New Delhi: A day after he took oath as a union minister, BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu has said that he is ready to take any responsibility assigned to him by the Prime Minister and that he will work towards addressing the concerns of farmers.
Bittu, who lost Lok Sabha polls from Ludhiana and has been inducted in the union council of ministers as a Minister of State, said that "Congress never thought of Punjab" and lauded the BJP-led government's plan to open 17 units of Narcotics Control Bureau in the state, saying it will help curb the drug menace.
"I have already got a responsibility, I have become a minister, what bigger responsibility there can be... whatever portfolio is assigned to me by the Prime Minister, I will accept it. You are not an MP but you get to take oath due to the Prime Minister and Amit Shahji, what can be bigger than this for Punjab and me," he said.
Asked about Union Minister Amit Shah's remarks during the campaign in Ludhiana and that if Bittu is sent to Parliament, he will ensure an important role for him, the Punjab BJP leader said that Shah is known to keep his words.
"Whatever Amit Shah says he never backs off. He did what he had said. I was thinking how will the promise be fulfilled as I lost the election but when my name came (for inclusion in the council of ministers), I realised Amit Shah is Amit Shah," Bittu said.
Answering a query, Bittu said the senior BJP leader had stated that when issues in states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are being tackled, these can also be done in Punjab.
"We were in Congress, but it never thought about Punjab.. various communities are with BJP," he said.
Bittu said Amit Shah had announced in Ludhiana that 17 units of NCB would be opened in the state and each district will have an office.
"We have an office of Narcotics (Control) Bureau in Punjab, Amit Shah has said we will open offices in every district. Once this happens, do you think drug peddlers will be visible or their nexus will exist, they will be in jail. Opening 17 offices has a lot of importance for Punjab on the issue of drug menace," Bittu said.
The BJP leader said he will strive for more funds for Punjab and the BJP government is sensitive towards the issues of the industry.
He also said that he will work to solve issues concerning farmers.
