All of Congress’ RS aspirants are in one ‘Nav Sankalp’ committee!

New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has constituted three important committees to implement the resolutions of Nav Sankalp Shivir. One is the Political Affairs Committee of the Congress. The other is the task force set up for the preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and one is the committee to coordinate the Bharat Jodo Yatra. In this, the election preparation committee is headed by P Chidambaram and interestingly enough, it seems that all the contenders for the Rajya Sabha seat of the Congress have been placed in this committee. Committee chairman P Chidambaram’s term of Rajya Sabha is also coming to an end and he is also a contender.

Chidambaram is currently a Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra. This time it is not yet decided whether he will go to the Upper House from Maharashtra itself or he will be sent from his home state Tamil Nadu. Keep in mind that this time DMK has left one seat for the Congress. Meanwhile, another name in Chidambaram’s committee is that of Mukul Wasnik who has been the general secretary of the party for the last 20 years. According to the rule of leaving office after five consecutive years, he has to leave the post of General Secretary. He has been hoping to go to the Rajya Sabha for a long time and this time it is possible that he will get a chance from his home state Maharashtra.

The third name in Chidambaram’s committee is that of Jairam Ramesh. He is a Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka and his term is also coming to an end and he is once again hoping to be sent to the Upper House from Karnataka itself. Like Chidambaram, Ramesh’s going to the Rajya Sabha is considered almost certain. In the committee, the fourth name is of KC Venugopal, who is already in the Rajya Sabha. The fifth name is of Ajay Maken whi is the general secretary of the party and is in charge of Rajasthan. This time he is also hoping to get a Rajya Sabha nomination. However, there are already two external leaders as MPs from Rajasthan in the form of Manmohan Singh and KC Venugopal.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is the sixth name in the task force. She herself does not know whether she wants a Rajya Sabha seat or not, but many party leaders and her close people want to send her to Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also wants the same. The seventh name in this committee is that of Randeep Surjewala, who is somehow doing all he can to go to the Upper House. Congress will get one seat in his home state Haryana, but everyone knows that Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s camp will not allow him to win if the party sends Surjewala to Haryana. That’s why he is trying for Rajya Sabha membership from some other state.
