All is not well as students at risk of dying by suicide in country

New Delhi: Last week, a second-year MBBS student from the AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) allegedly died leaving a suicide note at the institute’s hostel, according to the police reports. Not only this, the same week, a BTech and an MTech student from IIT Hyderabad committed suicide on which the institute released a statement calling it an “unfortunate incident” and “came as a shock.”

Similarly, multiple students are ending their life, and shockingly, the series of student deaths seem to be pointing at a more disturbing trend India is witnessing now and is slowly turning to be the suicide hotspot of the world. It was reported that before the pandemic, 11,396 children ended their lives in 2020, with an average of 31 teenagers every day. The Covid-19 pandemic was a disaster and it played havoc with the teens’ social lives at the most crucial age of their development, wrecked their academic schedules, and drove them to screen addiction.
