Aishwarya Rai Bachchan rejoices 20 years of Devdas with a throwback picture

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the epitome of beauty as Paro in Devdas. She not only captured hearts with her regality in the film but also with her excellent portrayal of the girl who is completely and eternally in love with Dev. This year, the film completes 20 years since its release. Reminiscing on this iconic film, Aishwarya posted a throwback photo of herself as Paro on her Instagram feed.

 

 

The photo was of a married Paro, complete with a large bindi, sindoor and a veil over her head. A text on the picture said, “20th anniversary Devdas”. Several fans rushed to the comments section to share their love for the actress and the film. “You were beyond belief♥️🧿 #Bigfan”, one fan wrote while another commented, “️ I still watch this movie.... I love youuuuu”. One user said, “Wow 20 years. 😱 It feels like it was just released! My all time favourite movie! Such a timeless piece!” and a fan thanked Aishwarya by writing, “i just watched this movie again🥹love you so much and you made me love my roots even more️”.

 

 

Bhansali Productions also shared stills from the movie and celebrated the characters of the film. They shared Aishwarya’s picture along with her co-stars, Shah Rukh Khan who played the titular role of Devdas, Madhuri Dixit who portrayed the courtesan Chandramukhi and Jackie Shroff’s Chunnilal, Devdas’ friend. Four short clips dedicated to each character celebrated the eternal love of Devdas, the unconditional love of Paro, the selflessness of Chandramukhi and the friendship of Chunnilal.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Devdas was based on the book written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay by the same name and traces the journey of star-crossed lovers Dev and Paro who are torn apart by Dev’s wealthy family. It then showcases Dev’s downfall as he resorts to alcohol and Paro’s imprisonment in her husband’s mansion. The film won several accolades and was the highest-grossing film of the year. It also won Aishwarya her second Filmfare for the Best Actress.
