AAP’s walks the tight rope of ‘Hindu politics’ in Punjab too!

New Delhi: Seeing the candidates decided by Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal for the five Rajya Sabha seats in Punjab, it seems that his eyes are on ‘Hindu politics’ there too. Of their five candidates, four are Hindus and only one is a Sikh candidate.

Of the five Hindus, two Punjabis are Khatris, one Vaishya and one Brahmin. Of the five retiring Rajya Sabha MPs, three were Sikhs and two Punjabi Khatris. Pratap Singh Bajwa, Shamsher Singh Dulhan and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa were the three Sikhs and Naresh Gujral and Shwet Malik were Punjabi Khatris.

Akali Dal, BJP and Congress did not send Vaishyas or Brahmins to Rajya Sabha. None of the five MPs were from outside Punjab and no one had any profession other than politics.

In this context, Kejriwal has carried out the ‘Delhi experiment’ in Punjab. When he got three seats in Delhi, he sent a leader of his party, Sanjay Singh, to the Upper House and on the remaining two seats, he sent two businessmen - Sushil Gupta and ND Gupta. Similarly, two businessmen — Ashok Mittal and Sanjeev Arora have been sent to Punjab.

The remaining three names are cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Delhi MLA Radhav Chadha and election strategist Sandeep Pathak.

Then with the announcement of the names, questions arose that there is no woman, Dalit, backward or Muslim among the Rajya Sabha MPs of the Aam Aadmi Party who put up the picture of Bhagat Singh and Babasaheb Ambedkar. All its candidates are upper caste men, businessmen or famous people.
