EXCLUSIVE! A superficial industry and an honest Esha Gupta: Actress reminisce 10 years in the industry
Mumbai (Maharashtra): Esha Gupta is one of the hottest Bollywood actresses and that too with a talent that oozes out with her every performance. She is brilliant in all her projects, right from her debut in Jannat 2 to now in Aashram 3. The actress is portraying the role of Sonia in the crime thriller series that talk about conning godmen and the crimes around them. Talking to First India Filmy, the actress got candid about the Aashram 3, Bollywood, and much more.
Esha disclosed that the character of Sonia is special for her because she is different from the other roles she has portrayed. “The times have to accept lead actresses play negative roles. When Aashram came to me, I liked that the character had that greyness to it. I always want the good to prevail but, in this show, there are no good people so I just jumped on the wagon.”
She added, “When I got a call from Prakash sir’s team that they are calling you in for Aashram, I immediately said yes. Because I had just finished the first two seasons two weeks ago. The actors and director themselves are so phenomenal that when I got the offer, I was like I’ll do it, you tell me what I have to do later on. I also knew that when it is Prakash Jha, your role is bound to be good.”
On her 10 years of journey in the industry, Esha revealed that she could not believe that it has already been 10 years. “I feel like I just started but when I look at the years, it is then I realise how much time flew by. It is the gift of God that I survived so long. Many have been working in the industry before me and haven’t done so great and many came after and surpassed me. But the day I stopped comparing myself with them, is when I knew I have done well in life.”
She also stated that the film industry is very superficial and thus one should have confidence in themselves. She also added that when the façade of ‘they are something great’ breaks down from the industry, it would become a better place.
Esha further talked about nepotism stating, “I wasn’t offered good projects and the ones I liked, you have seen me in them. The problem in this industry is people get work due to nepotism or you are related to someone in some way.” The actress also said that she works less because people at times were also offended due to her outspoken behaviour or stopped working with her because they wanted something else in return and did not get it.
Talking about trolls, Esha said that an online opinion would not change who she is, so it does not matter what people say about her.
Describing her 10-year journey in a single sentence, Esha said, “She is still living her own life, would be what describes my journey the best.”
