New Delhi: The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha began on Monday with the oathtaking ceremony by newly elected members of the Lower House, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Earlier in the day, President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to BJP lawmaker Bhartruhari Mahtab as the protem Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The BJP-led NDA made a comeback for a third term after winning 293 seats. On day 1, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned the Emergency and attack on the Constitution, the Opposition leaders took oaths holding a copy of the Constitution and even protested with a copy of the book near Gate No. 2 of the old Parliament building. The Parliament session will conclude on July 3.
