A nation to protect: Priyam Gandhi Modi, Amitabh Kant, Sajjan Singh Yadav, and Naresh Trehan

Right in the middle of Covid, so much was going on at a maximal and minute level. There were wars to be fought, emotional and physical.

Day 3 of JLF 2023, and a session on 'A Nation To Protect', talked vigorously about India, how the covid took a toll, and how we mastered it all and learnt some important lessons

 "But did we make a mistake between first wake and delta wave? Did we let our guard down soon?," asked Naresh Tehran as the session started

 "Should we have reacted differently? We did and we must learn from that. You can't allow festivities to happen when the nation is suffering, and we did pay a price for that."

Talking about how India handled everything, Sajjan Singh Yadav said, "I can say on behalf of government that we did everything we could but the real hero is steel industry and they are source that save india. Tankers would take days to be filled, government then pressed air force into it. And that is very unique, no one did that in the world."

Talking about more contributions, Priyam Gandhi said, "many manufacturers repurposed their facilities to provide more ventilators."

Where did virus come from?

As per Sajjan, it is a difficult question to answer, no one could give clear answer.

"How it spilled over onto us? There is no clear answer. Virus started in Wuhan of China, the research was going on there for decades, there were so many scientists who were admitted to hospitals. So that can be an indication." "But at the same time, WHO cannot find index case or intermediate cause. That infers that it could be a natural transition, " stated Sajjan.

"No matter how many times we sugar coat, virus came from China," Naresh Tehran blatantly stated.

"There are force we aren't aware of and have no control over, so we need or be prepared. We did very well because so many proactive actions were taken by us. Crown goes to people of India," Tehran further stated.

At the end, Amitabh Kant had some important lessons to share. "Testing is really key to controlling the disease, there is no substitute for hand hygiene and masks. That is most critical. Lockdowns do not breakdown the chain of transmission. They can be short term solutions. Ventilators are highly overrated and oxygen is really the crux. Also, cities are most vulnerable than villages."
