UP sees surge in IAS transfers on marriage grounds

Lucknow: The number of IAS officers in Uttar Pradesh’s bureaucracy is on the rise. The DOPT has recently allocated IAS Bharti Meena, who was previously in Assam-Meghalaya cadre, to UP cadre on marriage grounds.

Her husband, Rajkumar Meena, an IPS officer from the 2022 batch, is currently posted as ACP in Prayagraj.

IAS Bharti is a native of Bharatpur, Rajasthan, while her husband Rajkumar hails from Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Meena is yet to join her new posting in UP, but her posting order will be issued soon, perhaps in or around Prayagraj district. UP is favored by many IAS and IPS officers, often referred to as a “marriage ground” state in the bureaucracy.

Several other IAS/IPS officers from different states are expected to move to UP on marriage grounds.

For instance, in August, IAS Devyani from Maharashtra’s 2021 cadre joined UP and married IPS Shivam Ashutosh from the 2023 batch. Previously, IAS Dr. Aparajita Singh, CDO of Shahjahanpur from the 2019 batch, joined UP cadre after marrying IPS Devendra Kumar who is from the 2021 UP cadre.

Similarly, IAS officer Pratibha Singh, from the 2020 batch, joined UP after marrying IPS Aditya Langhe, SP of Chandauli.
