UP government appoints Senior IPS officer Vijay Kumar as 3rd acting DGP

Lucknow: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Vijay Kumar has been named as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) by the Yogi Adityanath government. He will succeed the incumbent acting DGP RK Vishwakarma, who has since retired. Kumar is a 1988-batch IPS officer and will also hold the additional charge of DG CB-CID, a post currently held by him.

Kumar is the third acting DGP of UP. The earlier ones being DS Chauhan and Vishwakarma. Another senior police officer Anand Kumar, DG (Cooperative Cell) was also in the running but he lost to Vijay Kumar.

UP last had a fulltime state police chief in 2022 when Mukul Goel was at the helm.
