State approves new township policy to boost urban development

Jaipur: Rajasthan is set to implement a new Township Policy following the approval of its draft with significant amendments by the state cabinet. The policy aims to streamline urban development across the state. To oversee its implementation, a State-Level Implementation and Monitoring Committee will be formed, consisting of officials from key departments such as Urban Development, Energy, and Water Resources, alongside two representatives from developer associations.

A major revision in the final policy is the removal of the “Phase-wise Development” provision, which had previously caused delays. Additionally, the proposal for integrated residential townships in major cities like Jaipur and Udaipur has been dropped. The new policy now mandates that developers maintain townships for seven years, with clear guidelines on area selection. Furthermore, developers and landowners are now authorized to lead township developments.
