Old MREC housing project faces hurdles

Jaipur: The Bhajan Lal government has initiated steps towards a housing scheme for officers graded 8700 and above at the Old MREC in Gandhi Nagar. However, progress has been slow, indicating the government’s uncertainty on the matter. The previous govt left the issue unresolved, but it has gained traction once again under the Bhajan Lal administration.

Currently, 26 allottees from E Block have been instructed to vacate their residences, although they have been allotted alternative housing. However, due to issues with their new accommodations, they are requesting more time before moving.

The General Administration Department (GAD) has urged these allottees to vacate promptly but hasn’t granted an extension yet. The main challenge lies in getting these allottees to vacate voluntarily, as GAD prefers a non-confrontational approach.

One of the key problems is the scarcity of housing for government employees, especially those in higher grades, with wait times ranging from 100 to 500 days.

The original plan involved demolishing 39 houses at Old MREC to construct 298 flats across 6 blocks, primarily for officers with grades 8700 and above.
