MINES DEPT IGNORES FIRM’S FOLLY, SIGNS MOU FOR 2ND TIME

Jaipur: The mines department has signed an MoU with the Jindal Saw Limited for a second time on Monday for starting its steel plant with an investment of Rs 2,500 crore in Udaipur.

Notably, the firm had signed an MoU for the same plant six years ago and the department had issued a notice to the firm for not starting the plant on time.

Even after six years of the first MoU, the process of allotment of land is still going on. The firm, however, described it as a new investment to the mines department and got an MoU signed.

Mines Minister Pramod Jain Bhaya has been kept in the dark.

He was not informed about the status of negotiations before the MoU was inked. The Mines and Geology Department had granted a mining lease to M/s Jindal Saw Limited on 16 November 2010 at Dedwas for extraction of iron ore, gold, silver, lead, zinc, copper, nickel, cobalt and associated minerals as per the terms and conditions.

Now, it is to be seen that the mines department accepts its negligence in the matter by taking any action against the company
