Koshyari to step down? To head back to Dev Bhoomi?

Mumbai: Even as the Shiv Sena - Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress continue to demand Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s ouster, rumours were rife in Maharashtra on Monday that the Governor was considering stepping down and moving back home to Uttarakhand. Some people thought the ouster would be a tactical error as it would “imply the BJP has bowed to the opposition, thus projecting an image of a weak state BJP and weaker Centre”. However, late on Monday evening Deputy Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis hinted that Koshyari’s days in Maharashtra’s Raj Bhavan are likely numbered. “The post of Governor is a constitutional post and there is a process to remove him or her. This work is not done by the government, it is the work of the President,” he said. His comments came when asked to comment on a press conference in which Satara royal and BJP MP Udayanraje Bhosale emotionally reiterated his demand for Koshyari’s resignation. Bhosale, a descendant of Shivaji Maharaj, has been gunning for the Governor to be replaced ever since the latter referred to the Maratha king as “an icon of olden times”.
