22 bogies derailed, no injuries reported, ADM Kanpur assesses derailment site of Sabarmati Express
Kanpur: Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Rakesh Verma assessed the derailment site of the Sabarmati Express (Varanasi to Ahmedabad, train number 19168, in Kanpur Uttar Pradesh on Saturday morning.
ADM Verma informed ANI that 22 bogies of the Sabarmati Express have derailed in a block section between Kanpur and Bhimsen station and no injuries have been reported.
"22 bogies have derailed but no one is injured. All the passengers are being sent back to the station by bus. A memo train is also on its way here Fortunately, there are no casualties of any kind," ADM Verma said.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed that the engine hit an object placed on the track and derailed.
"The engine of Sabarmati Express (Varanasi to Amdavad) hit an object placed on the track and derailed near Kanpur at 02:35 am today. Sharp hit marks are observed. Evidence is protected. IB and UP police are also working on it. No injuries to passengers or staff. Train arranged for passengers for onward journey to Ahmedabad." Ashwini Vaishnaw informed in a post on X.
Indian Railways promptly dispatched buses to the location to safely evacuate and transfer passengers to Kanpur.
Additionally, an 8-coach MEMU rake departed at 5:21 AM to assist in facilitating passenger movement to Kanpur.
The Varanasi to Ahmedabad, Sabarmati Express derailed near Kanpur at 02:35 am today. The engine hit an object placed on the track and derailed. Sharp hit marks were observed. Officials said that evidence found near the 16th coach from the loco had been protected. As per the initial investigation, there is no fracture in the railway track. IB and UP police are also working on it. No injuries were reported to passengers or staff.
Railway DRM Jhansi Division Deepak Kumar said, "There is no casualty or an injury. The passengers have been taken back to Kanpur via bus and train. Another train has been prepared in Kanpur to take the passengers to their respective destinations..."
Indian Railways also arranged a relief train for passengers for their onward journey to Ahmedabad. The Indian Railways said it was actively investigating the incident.
