1,11,000 JOBS, 39 CORPORATES, ONE GOVT!

Mumbai: The Maharashtra state government has been burning the midnight oil on the issue of employment opportunities for youth in the state and will announce 1,11, 000 new jobs commitments through 39 corporate MOUs come Wednesday. Smarting over the recent exit of the Foxconn-Vedanta joint venture from Maharashtra into the neighbouring Gujarat state, the Maharashtra government has shifted into top gear to recompense the state for the perceived notional job losses, had the project been housed in the state. Come Wednesday Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Mangal Prabhat Lodha will ink memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with 39 corporates that individually will commit to job creations in Maharashtra numbering 1, 11, 000 in all, as the state government hopes to secure 5 lakh jobs for unemployed youth in Maharashtra this fiscal year (2022-2023).

Confirming the bigticket job creation drive to be formalised on November 16, a top state secretariat (Mantralaya) official said, “We also want to cement the roadmap for future job fairs organised in Maharashtra to ensure they are effectively conducted with clearer outcomes. The Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department of the Maharashtra government was accorded the honourable Governor’s assent to hold a meeting at the Durbar Hall at Rajbhavan on Wednesday for a meeting with 39 reputed industry establishments, business organisations and placement agencies where the MOUs will be inked.” Maharashtra’s Commissioner for Skills Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship Dr Ramaswamy N told First India, “We had reached out to 133 corporates for this first of its kind initiative to crystallise jobs. 39 firms confirmed their commitment and MOUs will be signed on Wednesday. This is distinct from the annually organised job fairs in Maharashtra hitherto.”
