Two people killed, 1 injured in fire after explosion in benzene storage tank at IOC, situation under control: Vadodara DCP

Vadodara: In the aftermath of fire caused by an explosion in a benzene storage tank on Monday at the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) refinery in Vadodara city, DCP Abhay Soni said that two people were killed in the incident and one person was injured. He further said that situation was under control.
Abhay Soni said, "The blast occurred in a benzene storage tank at around 3 pm yesterday and due to that fire broke out. The fire was brought under control by 2 am. Now the situation is under control. The production unit related to that area is closed but other units are working. 2 people died and 1 got injured in the incident."
He further said that there is no need to fear. "All the safety protocols have been followed. In the second production unit regular work is going on. Nearly 6 to 7 thousand workers are working inside. All the industrial safety measures have been followed.
In a press release Indian Oil Corporation thanked the local authorities and nearby industries for their cooperation and support in entire rescue operations.
"We hereby to inform that the fire reported yesterday in a benzene storage tank at the Gujarat Refinery has been fully extinguished at around 2 am today morning by our fire fighting teams and mutual aid partners. Refinery operations are normal, ensuring uninterrupted production. We thank and commend the local authorities and nearby industries for their cooperation and support in entire rescue operations," Indian Oil Corporation said in a press release.
The IOC said that it has constituted a high-level committee to thoroughly investigate the cause of incident. Further updates will be shared as we work towards it, the press release added.
