Gujarat: Trolley overturns while crossing flooded causeway on river amid heavy rains, 10 rescued, 7 missing

Morbi: A search and rescue operation is underway to trace 7 missing people after 17 people drowned when a tractor's attached trolley overturned near Morbi's Dhavana village on Sunday night while crossing a flooded causeway on a river amid heavy rains, Morbi Collector said on Monday.
Morbi Collector KB Jhaveri said that 10 people have been rescued so far.
Morbi Collector KB Jhaveri said that due to heavy rains in Surendranagar district, a lot of water was flowing from the causeway.
KB Jhaveri said, "Due to heavy rains today, a lot of water was flowing from the causeway. A tractor was passing through that causeway and the attached trolley overturned due to the force of water. Around 17 people travelling were drowned. Our Block Development Officer, Tehsildar, Chief Officer Municipality, SP and myself arrived here. We called our State Disaster Relief Force. Till now, we have saved the lives of 10 people. We are trying our best to save the rest of the people."
He further said that the rescue operation is underway and the state government is providing all facilities to carry out the rescue operation.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi in the wake of heavy rainfall in the state and assured them of any assistance needed from the Central government.
Due to the heavy rains causing flood-like conditions in some areas of Gujarat, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with the Chief Minister and Home Minister of Gujarat and assured them of any assistance needed from the central government. Meanwhile, keeping in view the forecast of heavy to very heavy rains made by the Meteorological Department in Gujarat, a review meeting was held at the State Emergency Operation Center under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Rajkumar on August 25.
In this meeting, the Gujarat Chief Secretary advised the Nodal Officers of various departments, Survey District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners who were connected through video conference to remain alert against possible dang.
