AAP protests fuel price hike across Gujarat
Ahmedabad: With political parties demonstrating against inflation of fuel prices across the state, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) organized protests in various cities and towns on Saturday.
But, before protests could be mounted on a major scale, demonstrators belonging to the party were arrested by police. AAP workers had staged a protest equipped with posters and banners at the Ahmedabad district panchayat.
They chanted slogans such as “Have mercy on the country, make petrol-diesel cheaper”. The party also alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had been raising petrol/diesel prices to hit people because of decline in tax revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ironically, fuel prices have increased over 43 times since the pandemic hit the country.
According to the press release issued by the party, over 500 workers in Ahmedabad and Surat, 250 in Rajkot and 200 workers in Vadodara were detained while protesting against price hike of fuel. Protests were also held in the districts of Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Dahod, Junagadh, and Jamnagar.
In Vadodara, workers gathered at Gandhinagar House and demonstrated by sarcastically questioning, “Petrol is cheaper? Or is diesel cheaper?” Party leaders have made it known that protests will continue aggressively across Gujarat if fuel prices are not brought under control soon.
