Man defeats nCoV in 40 days despite 80% lung infection
Surat: In a ‘miracle’ discharge approved by staffers of New Civil Hospital in the city, a COVID-19 patient recovered from a 80% infection in his lungs after staying hospitalized for 40 days.
Vijaybhai Varia, 43, of Adajan was treated at the hospital after being referred there by a private hospital on April 01.
He had tested positive on March 25 and received five days’ treatment at the private facility. He was reunited with his family on May 05.
Commenting on his recovery, Dr KN Bhatt, head of medicine department at New Civil Hospital, said, “Vijay was admitted to the hospital on April 01 with fever and breathing difficulties.
His CT scans showed severe infection in lungs and he was on 100% oxygen on the BiPAP in the ICU. Prolonged treatment and plasma helped boost his recovery.”
“I will never forget the 34 days I spent at Civil Hospital. I have come back from the brink of death because of staffers there,” Vijaybhai said.
