Surat: The Road Safety Council has declared 7 “black spots” in Surat and 16 in the district for frequent accidents. These areas witnessed 66 accidents between 2017 and 2019 in which 43 people died.

The highest number of accidents occurred at Magdalla ONGC Bridge, Khajod, Abhava and Udhna areas.

Frequent accidents within a radius of 100 to 200 meters on the same spot as well as more than 3 fatalities and over 10 serious accidents in the last 3 or 5 years are called “black spots.”

RTO in-charge Hardik Patel said plans were afoot to reduce the number of accidents at the black spots.
So far licenses of 406 people were suspended in five months, 102 in January, 106 in March, 60 in April and 34 in May.

It damages the eyes of bike riders. Also, action would be taken against those driving at high speeds on ONGC Bridge and Dumas Road.

Pandesara Batliboi Circle, Siddharth Nagar T Point Chokdi, Jahangirpura Dabholi Bridge, Magadalla ONGC Bridge, Abhava Chokdi, Gabhani Chokdi and Budia Chokdi are new hotspots.
