Netizens call Deepika Padukone’s statement at Cannes Film Festival “Superficial” and “Nonsense”

Cannes (France): Deepika Padukone has made her mark in Bollywood with a successful career and now she is representing the country on an international platform. The actress is attending the Cannes Film Festival this year as a jury member. During the press conferences of the jury members, the actress was asked how they will judge the films.

To this, the actress replied, “I think we are all aware of the fact that it is a huge responsibility. But, I think, we have also made a promise to each other yesterday that we are not going to burden ourselves with that responsibility. I think the idea is to remind ourselves of that audience, or of that young child who’s grown up watching movies and been inspired. I think cinema is such a powerful tool, such a powerful medium, it has the power to impact and touch people's lives. So, I think too we are going to forget for the next two weeks that we actually have this burden and responsibility and actually just enjoy the creative process that we are all here to do. I think we are all creative people and I don't think anyone of us has the capacity to judge or to critique or criticise.”

After hearing her answer, netizens were confused and bewildered as to what she meant. Many called her answer nonsense and superficial but praised the way she delivered it. “Only deepika can say the most superficial things and make them sound deep and intellectual,” one netizen commented. While someone wrote, “Oh god. Every single time, she speaks many sentences, but at the end, no one actually gets what exactly she tried to convey” and another stated, “such prolific nonsense but just because she’s so beautiful one can bear that much verbal farrago.”

The actress is stunning everyone with her red carpet looks at the Cannes Film Festival. The Om Shaanti Om actress also danced to Ghoomar at the inauguration of the India Pavillion at Cannes which also saw the presence of many Indian celebrities and dignitaries including I&B Minister Anurag Thakur.
