Somy Ali slams trolls blaming her for not siding with Hamas, says Hamas is a terrorist organisation

Actress Somy Ali took to Instagram to air out her feelings about the ongoing Israel-Palestine war. She says that she has been getting a lot of “nasty” messages about not supporting Hamas and here is a bit of what she had to say.

“I wanted to make a few clarifications today regarding the emails and the DMs that I have been receiving about Israel and Palestine. I was born in Pakistan and I moved to the US when I was 8 or 9 years old. Then I left America and moved to India at age 16. And at age 24, I came back to the US. I don’t know which country I belong to because I have so many citizenships. So, I am not very sure when people ask me if you are a Pakistani, an Indian or an American, my answer usually is I am a human being and my religion is humanity,” she says.

She adds, “So, a lot of people have been sending very nasty messages about my being a sellout and not taking side of what happened in Israel and standing up for Israel. The reason I took a stand for Israel is because I have a lot of Palestinian friends and a lot of Jewish friends, and I love them both equally. And I want you, the trolls and the people who have used a lot of profanity towards me because I am Muslim, saying that I am a sell out… I want you to understand that Hamas is a terrorist organisation. And we have known this for years. And they are using their own people, their own Palestinian citizens, civilians as shields to protect themselves by guns and the attacks. So that, in my opinion, warrants me to take a stand for Israel. And if tables were turned, it were the other way around, I would take a stand for Palestine. Hence, I want to make myself very clear that I am not taking any sides. Whether it's anyone who is Christian, Catholics, Jewish, Muslim…whatever, it doesn’t matter to me. I am more of a spiritual person. I was raised Muslim but I believe my religion to be humanity.”

She even captioned the post as, “It’s okay to be Pro-Israel. It’s okay to be Pro-Palestine IT’S NOT OKAY TO BE PRO-HAMAS. Listen to Mosab Hassan, son of the leader of Hamas, and he tells us their mission was once initiated and remains to be the same to date.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Somy runs a US based NGO called No More Tears, and works for the victims of domestic abuse and rape.
