Smoking should be completely banned and made illegal: Celebs on World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day is observed every year on May 31. It is celebrated to create awareness about the ill-effects of tobacco and the diseases it causes. Sharing their thoughts on this day, celebrities said that using tobacco in any form should be banned completely.

Yes, smoking is a huge problem, and I strongly criticize it. Despite our efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of smoking, it seems to be having little impact. I see more and more people smoking every day, and it's a trend that's only increasing. In my opinion, smoking should be completely banned and made illegal, as it's a harmful habit that affects not just individuals but entire communities. Unfortunately, the lack of designated smoking areas in India means that passive smoking is a common occurrence. Moreover, the lucrative nature of the tobacco industry makes it unlikely that smoking will be eradicated anytime soon. Humans have a tendency to be drawn to negative things, as evidenced by the popularity of argumentative and sensationalized news programs. No matter how many warnings are printed on cigarette packets, people will continue to smoke until they suffer the consequences of their actions.

I am completely opposed to tobacco use because it harms the body and leads to cancer. I've witnessed many people suffer from this disease. Tobacco addiction takes over after a while, impairing mental function. Each cigarette you smoke reduces your lifespan. Tobacco causes mouth and throat cancer. Stay tobacco-free, and let’s work together to make the world a healthier place. I believe the government should significantly increase the tax on tobacco products. Higher prices could serve as a deterrent, potentially encouraging some individuals to quit smoking due to the financial burden. Additionally, the government should impose substantial penalties on those who smoke in public places. Such measures would help to discourage smoking in shared spaces, thereby protecting non-smokers from secondhand smoke and promoting a healthier environment for everyone.

Among the youth, tobacco use is frequently adopted as a trend or a means to appear more sophisticated or "cool." This social pressure can lead young individuals to start smoking or using other forms of tobacco without fully understanding the long-term consequences. It's crucial to address this misconception and emphasize that using tobacco does not enhance one's image; rather, it poses significant risks to one's health and well-being. Although systemic changes are slow due to economic factors, each person has the power to make choices that protect their health and set a positive example for others. To all individuals considering or currently using tobacco, I would say they should act responsibly, prioritize their well-being, and help create a healthier future for themselves and those around them.

Not only today, but I wish to see a tobacco-free world every day. The harmful effects of tobacco are well-documented, and it is a substance that causes a great deal of harm to both individuals and society as a whole. When you choose to smoke or consume tobacco in any form, you are not only causing significant damage to your own health, but you are also negatively impacting the environment around you and the well-being of others who do not wish to be exposed to its harmful effects. A tobacco-free world would be a healthier, cleaner, and more pleasant place for everyone. It would significantly reduce the burden of disease, protect the environment, and ensure that future generations can grow up without the threat of tobacco-related illnesses. I strongly wish for this change to happen, not just today, but every single day.

The issue of passive smoking, also known as secondhand smoke, is particularly concerning. People who are exposed to secondhand smoke are at risk of developing serious health problems, even if they have never smoked a cigarette themselves. This includes children, pregnant women, and people with pre-existing health conditions who may be especially vulnerable to the effects of tobacco smoke. While the government may not fully curb the tobacco industry's influence, each person can make informed decisions to avoid tobacco and encourage others to do the same. By taking proactive steps to care for oneself, such as seeking healthier ways to manage stress and resisting social pressures, individuals can significantly reduce the prevalence of tobacco use and its associated health risks. Protecting your health should be of utmost importance, as the consequences of tobacco use can be devastating and irreversible.

I used to smoke, but it was taking a toll on my health and fitness goals. I realized I had to quit, and that's exactly what I did. The first five days were incredibly challenging, but I persevered and overcame the urge. Giving up smoking has been a game-changer for my health and wellbeing. I can now work out more efficiently, run faster, and even play cricket without getting winded. It's been an amazing one and a half years since I quit smoking, and I'm thrilled to have made the decision to prioritize my health.

Well, I don't think smoking can be banned because if you ban something, it becomes an illegal underground trade like so many other things going on. So, I would suggest that there should be more awareness. Instead of having an actor smoke, I would say there should be more videos about the awareness of what happens when you smoke and what can happen when you smoke.
