Nitin Chandrakant Desai, a well-known art director, commits suicide
On Wednesday morning, renowned Indian art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai committed suicide.
According to reports he hanged himself at his own ND Studios in Karjat, which is 90 minutes by car from Mumbai.
Incidentally, Desai ended his life just days before his birthday on August 9. He would have turned 58 in a week.
One of his staff member who was present in the studio said that, "He committed suicide at 3 am". He also added that, "He (Nitin Desai) used to spend most of his time in the studio only."
Desai won the Best Art Direction National Award four times. He has received praise for creating opulent settings for popular films like 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam,' 'Devdas,' 'Jodha Akbar,' 'Lagaan,' and 'Bajirao Mastani,' among others.
Desai collaborated with a number of legendary directors during the course of his career, including Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and others.
He launched his ambitious ND Studios in 2005 in Karjat, a suburb of Mumbai. The studio, which is 52 acres in size, has hosted a number of movie sets, with 'Jodha Akbar' being the most well-known.
ND Studios featured not just films but also multiple seasons of the reality series 'Bigg Boss.'
