ARE YOU AWARE? For Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Karan Johar took approval from Madan Mohan's family to remake "Jhumka Gira Re"
In the glitzy 1960s, Sadhana rose to fame as a mystery heartthrob who mesmerised audiences with her indisputable ability and alluring beauty. Her timeless songs continue to be treasured today, with "Jhumka Gira Re" from the classic 1966 movie "Mera Saaya" being one of her most cherished songs. Fans of all ages continue to connect with her upbeat, folk-inspired song, which was created by Madan Mohan.
The well-known song has now been reworked for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani by Karan Johar. It goes without saying that audiences have already gotten weary and annoyed with the songs that have been replicated, and some of them have even forbidden themselves from listening to the new music that has been recreated.
According to reports, the freshly updated Jhumka Gira Re was created without consulting Sanjeev Kohli, the son of Madan Mohan, who composed the song's original melody. Legally, Karan Johar was not required to get permission. He previously secured authorization from Saregama, a renowned music label.
Now, a source close to the development has claimed otherwise. “Legally, Karan was not bound to seek anyone’s consent. Permission to use the song Jhumka Gira Re has already been taken from the music company Saregama. But Karan felt he should let Madan Mohan Saab’s family know that his song is being used,” the source was quoted as saying by ZoomTV.
However, his choice to let Madan Mohan Saab's family know about the song's usage shows how much he values the maestro's contribution to music.
The song holds a special place in the hearts of Karan Johar's family. The legendary actress Sadhana was good friends with his father, the producer Yash Johar.
“Sadhanaji was Yash Joharji’s rakhi brother. Every year, for Raksha Bandhan, he went to Sadhana’s residence to get a rakhi tied. It was an annual ritual that Yashji never missed until Sadhana’s death,” said the source close to Karan.
Lag Ja Gale Se, reportedly his father's favourite song, is one of Sadhana's most famous songs and was utilised by Karan in Bombay Talkies. It was initially included in the movie Woh Kaun Thi.
Now, Karan has incorporated another Sadhana song that his father adored in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
