Established in 1954, the National Film Awards overseen by the Directorate of Film Festivals honours outstanding achievements in Indian cinema across various languages and categories. Recognizing excellence in film direction, acting, production, and technical crafts, these prestigious awards celebrate the artistic and technical contributions of filmmakers. First presented in 1954 the Government of India conceived the ceremony to honour films made across India, on a national scale, to encourage the furthering of Indian art and culture.
