Cooperation between public & private sector is necessary: Shekhawat

New Delhi/Brasilia: At the first G-20 Tourism Ministerial Conference being held in Brazil, Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that there is a need for collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive sustainable tourism, promote cultural exchange and heritage.

Shekhawat participated in a discussion between public and private sector stakeholders in the tourism sector organized by the World Travel and Tourism Council.

Shekhawat met Tourism Minister of Spain Jordi Herreu i Boher for bilateral discussions on the sidelines of G-20 Tourism Ministerial Conference. They had useful discussions on enhancing tourism ties between the two countries through direct contacts, tourism trade fairs and people-to-people exchanges. The Union Minister met Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalisation and Minister for Regional Development of the Czech Republic Ivan Barto. They discussed eco-friendly travel, cultural exchange and innovative infrastructure in the two countries and cooperative mechanisms to facilitate greater tourist interaction between the two.

The Union Minister, in his meeting with Singapore’s Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alwyn Tan Sheng Hui, emphasised on bilateral tourism, cooperation, sustainability, cultural exchange and infrastructure development. Shekhawat also said there were discussions about possibilities of promoting tourism between the two countries, including a joint cooperation agreement, visa on arrival, free visa facilities and enhanced air connectivity with direct flights.
