"Blatant disregard for law and order": FORDA raises concern over murder of doctor at Delhi Hospital

New Delhi: The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) raised concerns about the law and order situation in the national capital following the murder of a BUMS practitioner at a Delhi hospital on Thursday.
Terming it as a 'blatant disregard for law and order,' FORDA questioned why doctors have been becoming easy targets in the hospital.
"A doctor at NIMA Hospital, Delhi, was shot dead at point blank range yesterday night. According to Delhi Police, prima facie it's a case of targeted killing--unprovoked and possibly planned. Dr Akhtar was a BUMS practitioner. May his soul rest in peace. An incident like this happening at workplace of a doctor in the capital city of India? !![?] Isn't this a blatant disregard for Law And Order in the city? Why are doctors becoming easy targets in the hospitals?" posted FORDA on X.
A doctor was shot dead by two unknown individuals at the NIMA Hospital in the Jaitpur area of Delhi, said police on Thursday.
According to the police, the doctor, a Unani practitioner ( BUMS) identified as Javed Akhtar, was killed by the accused, who had come to the hospital seeking medical attention for an injury on Wednesday.
"As per the hospital staff, the duo arrived at Neema Hospital in Jaitpur under the Kalindi Kunj PS area for an injury and later requested to meet doctor Javed. After being given an appointment to meet him inside his cabin, the accused shot him and fled the scene," said police.
The police further said that the CCTV footage from the hospital shows both accused exiting the hospital premises.Shortly after the incident, the District Crime Team and FSL Rohini Team were called at the scene of the incident.
"A search is underway for the absconding accused. CCTV footage is being reviewed to track them down. All the facts are being investigated," said the police.
Sharing further details, police said that the accused are said to be minors, and prima facie the case is targeted killing as the incident was unprovoked.
Delhi Minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj reacted to the incident on Thursday.
Bharadwaj alleged the Central government and Delhi LG VK Saxena's administration failure resulted in a shocking incident and held responsible for rising crime in the national capital.
He posted on X handle, "Delhi has become crime capital--gangsters operating with ease, extortion calls and firings, and daily murders. Central Govt and LG Delhi have failed in their basic work for Delhi."
This incident comes in the midst of protests and strikes from doctors who have been agitating over the demands of their safety and security in medical establishments less than two months after the rape-murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Earlier, resident doctors of West Bengal restarted their cease-work agitation on Tuesday, alleging that the state government had not taken adequate steps to ensure their security and safety in state-run hospitals.
