Oscars Entry: Canadian filmmaker dismisses The Kashmir Files as hatemongering garbage and RRR as vile and sadistic

Mumbai (Maharashtra): India’s Oscars entries have always become a topic of scrutiny as not many Indian films have ever gone to the final list except, Mother India and Lagaan. As the Oscars are nearing once again, all eyes are on India’s official entry to the Academy Awards 2022. Recently, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap shared his opinion on how he thinks The Kashmir Files, a film that took the country by the storm should not be considered for the Oscars. Now, Canadian filmmaker Dylan Mohan Gray too has joined the wagon to oppose this idea.

Gray, who is known for his Netflix docu-series ‘Bad Boy Billionaires India’ took to his Twitter to share his thoughts. Calling it “hatemongering garbage”, he posted Vivek Agnihotri’s reply to Anurag Kashyap’s article where the filmmaker had called it a Lobby to out The Kashmir Files from the Oscars race. Gray wrote, “yeah, actually it’s (hatemongering, revisionist) garbage of no artistic merit and will be a further embarrassment to india if ‘selected’ by the ‘neutral’ board…@anuragkashyap72 is just trying to preserve what’s left of the country’s good name #yourewelcome #KashmirFiles.”

But he contrasted Kashyap’s idea of RRR having a 99% chance of being India’s official entry. The Canadian filmmaker wrote, “though #RRR is also vile and sadistic, not so much of a step up”.

The tweets have been deleted from his Twitter account as of yet.

RRR and The Kashmir Files were one of the biggest hits of 2022 and made audiences storm the theatres. However, the films worked more on an emotional connection rather than an artistic one. What are your opinions on both films?
