EXCLUSIVE! Deepika Singh traces journey from television to Bollywood

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Deepika Singh has wooed fans through her portrayal of Sandhya Rathi and touched the hearts of every household. The actress is now reaching another milestone in life as she is about to debut in Bollywood with her upcoming film ‘Titu Ambani’. Deepika sat down with First India Filmy to talk about her film, her journey as an actress and more.

Talking about Titu Ambani, she said, “For me, the story has been made at home and I have seen it develop into a film. So, I did not just get the story and did not mindlessly perform. The film also gave me a chance to work with such experienced actors and touchwood, the story has been written incredibly by Rohit Raj Goyal. Such a sensitive topic has been portrayed entertainingly with a dash of situational comedy. That is what I love about the film and I am glad I got to be a part of it.”

She added, “We worked hard on the project and thought about nothing else for the past two years. I have seen Rohit work on the script for months. So, for me, my family and Sabal Productions, the success of this film mean a lot as it would allow us to give more such good content.”

She credited her loyal fans for her inspiring journey from television to Bollywood so far. Deepika mentioned, “I enjoy my work but I credit my success to my audience. I don’t think I have done wonders in Diya Aur Baati Hum but my audience has created those wonders by loving me so much. I am just true to myself and try to portray what the character image requires. I am just glad that my audience loved it and connected to my characters. So, I feel blessed for all the love. I just hope they also come to watch Titu Ambani in the theatres.”

Elaborating on her character Moushumi in the film, she stated, “Moushumi is a modern girl with strong principles. She has the calibre to say no to her partner when needed. Even though her family does not expect it, she wants to be their Shravan Kumar.”

Deepika also revealed how she felt like a newbie on the first day of shooting but her costars made her feel at ease and washed away all her worries. “Tushar is a very nice person who made me feel at ease by approaching me for rehearsals and retakes as I used to be very anxious to ask. Even the senior actors such as Sapna Ma’am, Raghuvir sir, Virendra sir, Brijendra Kala Ji and Samta Ma’am never pressurized me.”

Speaking on the ongoing controversy about Bollywood looking down on television stars, the actress said, “We can see Mouni Roy in Brahamastra or Sharad Kelkar in RamLeela. They are doing fantastic jobs in Bollywood and getting good roles. I haven’t yet entered proper Bollywood, so I cannot comment much but the people who feel that way, are surely speaking from experience.”
