'Most dishonest': Anurag Thakur hits out at Kejriwal over AAP's "dishonest" remark

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Anurag Thakur on Saturday hit out at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, saying that people of Delhi will not elect someone who thinks about governing from behind the bars. Questioning why Delhi Chief Minister Atishi's face was missing from the poster, Thakur alleged that Kejriwal was anti-women while saying that he was the most dishonest person in Delhi.
His reaction comes after AAP on Saturday launched an attack on all opposition players, including him, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, labelling them as "dishonest".
Meanwhile, the poster released by AAP on its social media account referred to Kejriwal as being "honest". The poster read."Kejriwal's honesty will prevail over all the dishonest people."
"My only question is this: is Delhi Chief Minister Atishi dishonest? Why is her face missing from the poster? Kejriwal is against women. He only sees himself. However, the people look at him and laugh that the biggest dishonest person in Delhi is him, who thinks of himself as 'Delhi ka Shehensha'. I am saying this because he did the liquor scam. Their ministers, MLAs and MPs went to jail and he shamelessly puts his face on the poster. People of Delhi will not elect someone who thinks about governing from behind the bars," Thakur told ANI.
He also extended greetings on the occasion of Himachal Diwas, saying that the state is known as the land of gods and warriors since the brave children of the land have sacrificed their lives protecting the country's border.
"Himachal is a state which is also known as dev bhoom and veer bhoomi (the land of gods and warriors). The brave children of the state have sacrificed their lives protecting the country's border. Of the 21 people who have received Paramveer Chakar, four of them are from Himachal Pradesh," Thakur said.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Alka Lamba launched a scathing attack on Kejriwal, saying that they made a "huge mistake" in allying with AAP during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. She further accused Kejriwal of "insulting" former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, demanding an apology from him.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh went a step further suggesting a link between Anna Hazare's movement and RSS while claiming that AAP is the "B Team" of BJP.
The Delhi Assembly elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, with the counting of votes set for February 8. A total of 699 candidates are competing for the 70 assembly seats in Delhi.
The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and failed to win any seats. In contrast, AAP dominated the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, winning 67 and 62 seats, respectively, out of a total of 70 seats, while BJP secured only three and eight seats in these elections.
