Five companies of Central Armed Police Force, including personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), reached Mumbai on Monday to be placed in an area heavily influenced by Covid-19, including the slums of Dharavi, an official said Thursday.

More than 700 personnel of the Mumbai Police have so far contracted the coronavirus infection. Of those, 10 have died of the disease until now.

With the placement of central forces, personnel of Mumbai Police will get some help in the tasks of the lockdown, the official said.

The central forces will help the Mumbai Police in maintaining law and order and to prevent untoward incidents in the city during the lockdown.

The central forces personnel have been deployed in zones 1,3,5,6 and 9 cities covering several southern regions and central Mumbai and parts of eastern and western outskirts, the official said.
